I have used cloud for quite a while since my last external hard drive got very ill and died on me. Current cloud provider is stopping his service so I need to get new cloud and while Im at it should really get an external drive so Im just wondering whateverybody else uses. 3TB for now would cover my needs at the moment. All advice more than welcome.

I usually replace my external drive every year, but let it slip 2 years this time. SSDs are bit over-the-top for me, so I just bought an external HD from Currys.

Strangely, I selected a 5Tb at £149, but when I went into their shop it was £159. An assistant even showed me the web listing on their phone at that price.
When I got home I double checked - definitely £149.

I paid on-line for shop collection at that point - just to be sure!

Couple of external drives (different vendors) - one at bro-in-law's house (lashed to a Raspberry Pi connected via a private VPN), regularly rsynced to the one at my house & both backed up on Amazon cloud.

He has the same arrangement at my house.

I follow the three rules of backups: back it up, back it up again, back it up again.

When I got home I double checked - definitely £149.
Internet pricing?

I've found it can work the other way round. When I bought a cheap printer last year, the online price was £85 but I decided to nip over to the shop because it's only about a mile from home. When I got there, they had one left at £69.95. I paid fast and tootled off home... :naughty:
