So I'm really new to photography, granted I've always had an interest in the subject I've never had any desire to actually join those who take pictures, until now.

However, I have no idea where to start :(
So any advice and tips you could give me would be wonerful.
Also, can anyone recommend a good camera for a begginer and maybe any helpful books etc. that explain terms in a non too technical way in order for me to understand?

Thank you :)

I'm same as you, I'm guessing it would help if you can state your budget as well :)

No point buying anything until you know what you want to photograph, but if the simple answer for now is 'everything' then any modern DSLR will do especially if you can get it with a couple of lenses covering the most popular range from about 18mm through to 200-300mm

There are zillions of 'how to' books around - just buy a thick one and it'll get you started :)

I've read lots of stuff on here, especially the tutorials. The other good place has been my local library, there are loads of good basic dslr books. They can give you a good idea of what kind of photos you want to take and what would be the best equipment for the job.

a really good book to start off with is Scott Kelby's digital photography.

You kinda get a list of instructions to follow (and it assumes you know nothing about digital photography) to achieve different shots. Really very helpful and simple to use.

good luck :)

I started photography in late July last year with only a camera phone, I then got a Nikon D5000 along with the book 'Nikon D5000 for dummies' haha :P

After looking at the book and getting used the camera i'm fine now. It depends on what you want to photograph. It doesnt really matter what SLR you get, it's all about lenses that i've learnt. I started out with a 18-55mm, then got a 55-200mm. Next I will get the 300mm, and so on.

I also did alot of research on the internet, so just read the tutorials and books and you'll be fine :)

what camera body + lenses would you reccomend budget £450?
and how do you send PM's

Thanks Guys
