Extremely low light compact camera needed

By low light i mean pretty much pitch black rooms. Was thinking of a Lumix LX7 or Sony rx100 preferably under £300 but wondered if there's anything else out there.
Currently use a Lumix zs1 but need something better.
Any help much appreciated.
 
I have an lx7 in my coat pocket right now..! Wonderful camera. Titchy sensor, marvellous lens. Nice to use, a photographers tool.

Sony takes very clean images with excellent IQ but somehow I find it a little sterile. But tens of thousands of owners can't be wrong.

I prefer the images produced by the Lx7 however. They just seem more 'photographic'.
 
There's nice noise and then there's 'orrible noise, in my experience with the wife's RX100 and Fuji (x100 and x-pro1) the noise is still there with the Fuji but is far less obvious and unpleasant. Personally I'd rather have a X100 over any of those you mention, but I guess it depends on the focal length needed.
 
With my budget i had discounted an x100 as even 2nd hand i just cant get to the money they are going for.
I did think of the x20 as it can be had for £270ish on the refurb shop.
Still unsure of the sony and the lumix.

It would help to know what you're trying to do, how you want to do it and what you are shooting.

If you are using a tripod and a low ISO setting I suppose the length of time you want the shutter open or the maximum length the shutter can be open could be a factor.

If you are shooting hand held and without a flash I think that it may be a tough task for any compact or in fact for pretty much any camera - without tripod or flash. For example I can't shoot my Sony A7 handheld in a pitch black room and capture anything other than a blur but in outside darkness I can get quite an acceptable shot hand held.

Ah, with flash many things are possible and you can keep the ISO low for a low noise image so good higher ISO performance may not matter but how are you going to focus? You'll need some focus assist or will that spoil the atmosphere? Dunno what you're shooting or where or if flash photography is allowed but even with focus assist a compact may struggle in very low light and on board flash may be weak... or are you talking about an additional mounted flash? Again... don't know what you're shooting, distance from the subject or the environment.

You could set the camera to a distance and zone focus. It's possible with some higher end compacts, my LX5 can be used that way.

Need more info... on what you are trying to do.
