Eye Cup Query

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Nikon D7000 and I am doing shadow work with a pro wedding photographer at weddings. The main and second shooter both use an eye cup on the camera that they use and I am considering buying one as well

Does anyone use a particular make / model and recommend using it?

Yeah true, I'm going to properly test it first from my friend, before I decide to invest in one. I am a newbie to photography, so just very slowly building up my knowledge and kit.
 
I had quite a hunt around to get one for my D90. Never leaves the camera now.

I find that it helps me viewing the information via the viewfinder and also helps stabilise the camera against my face, but that could have something to do with my nose previously being in the way :lol:

Lol, some good reasons pointed out there. Plus it will stop the photographer from touching the screen and making it sweaty! What make is it?
 
I have been having this dilemma as well for my Canon 5DMK3. The chaps here pointed me in the direction of this http://www.harrisoncameras.co.uk/Ca...ece-For-Hydrophobia-Rain-Covers_THI-EPC7D.htm . On reading lots of reviews etc for thm it would appear some give difficulty actually seeing the info in the viewfinder. However seems if you just want to keep your nose out the way (albeit an expensive method) taking out the optics from the extender seems to be the answer

So have you tried one yet?
 
i purchased one for my 1000d which with an adapter fits the 650d canon also.... i tried it once, then removed it as for my needs didnt even serve a purpose.... i havent used it since- its probably the worst 6.99 ive spent for camera gear lol but thats just me- you may have more of a use for one...
 
So what about when you need to change between landscape/portrait orientation, when doing a fast paced session?
I fancy trying one, but that is the thing which always stops me.

The one I have is easily swivled.

I realise they swivel, but I don't fancy having to remove the camera from my eye, swivel the eyepiece, replace camera to eye, etc.etc.
When doing a (for example) toddler shoot, I tend to flick between both orientations quickly, as needed, so there wouldn't be time to do it.
Maybe the round type would be better suited for me?

Maybe the round type would be better suited for you.
 
I have the round type. tbh, I push the outer rim of it back most times. Still better than the default vf cup though.

The think tank one is the best option then. At least you can also put the rain cover over it, should you ever need to.
It extends just enough for me. I find it more comfortable. Especially when shooting for a long time.
I didn't like the price tag, for a piece of plastic though. But I've got over that now.:)

I might check that one out as well...hoodman and think tank appear to be the leading names so far.

I would not be without it. Got it coupled to the magnifying eyepiece (Nikon part DK -17M).
