Yes, because I've had mine set-up to do it in the past when on client sites where I don't have wi-fi access.
You need the eye-fi app on the Nexus, plus the wi-fi transceiver on the Nexus turned on. In the eye-fi control centre you set the paired device (excuse me if I get the terminology wrong, I'm on the wrong PC to check all this) as the Nexus 7. You can only have one direct paired device at a time, but other devices can pick-up the eye-fi images with an internet connection to the eye-fi control centre.
