I have one of these, but use it rarely. It will transfer wirelessly to my Mac using iPhoto or to Aperture using Aperture Hot Folder ( available from Apple website)
Not sure what you are asking about being abroad, it will work as a memory card anywhere, but, you need to be within your computers wireless network range to transfer pictures to your Mac.
If you get the "GPS" card, it will tag your photos ( sort of) but uses wireless hotspots to get the location, not a lot of use if you are taking landscapes out in the country!
