Hi, I am a complete n00b so bear with me and this might have been broached before but has anyone had any experience with Eye-Fi SDHC cards and also the Geotagging version?

Does the Geotagging work?

Your advice would be much appreciated.
 
I have a couple of EyeFi Pro cards and although I found them great for uploading files from my 1DsMk3 I found the geotagging function rubbish unless you are somewhere near a lot of wifi signals (city).
 
Hmmm, I suspect as much in terms of the geotagging as it relies on wifi signal.

EdBray, as for the SDHC card, in your experience, are they reliable and have you had many errors?

Never had an error, I gave one card away when I sold my Canon 1DsMk3 and kept two, one is in my Fuji f100fd underwater kit (saves keep opening the housing) and one in my Fuji HS10. Don't use any other SD cards even though I have half a dozen 4GB Sandisk Extremes.
 
I used a 4gb Connect X2. It was pretty quick downloading, never had any problems with it but just couldnt get on with it downloading raw files to my Mac with Aperture, so took it back to Jessops. I found it more convenient for me to use a standard SD card.
I think the cards are very well made, possibly one of the best out there, as is the reader that comes with it. They really are amazing when you think what is fitted in such a small package but, as Edbray says, geotagging is not very good or accurate. Best left alone I think considering the extra cost.

Allan, Ed, just thinking aloud here, if I turned my iPhone into a Wifi hotspot, do you think the geotagging would work?:thinking:

I don't shoot sports or machine gun my images so I never noticed a problem with the speed of the card. I used to usually shoot RAW onto the CF card and small jpg to the EyeFi card which would then allow me to upload the small images instantly to my laptop on return from the shoot and post them on the net if I wanted.

On the odd occasion I used the EyeFi card to take RAW files, I found no noticeable difference whilst shooting but the files obviously took much longer to be uploaded to the computer.
