I HAVE ADDED A REPLY I POSTED TO A RECENT THREAD, I WONDERED IF ANYONE ELSE HAD VISION PROBLEMS AND FOUND PHOTOGRAPHY A WAY TO ENJOY THE WORLD AROUND THEM?

Well this might seem strange to sum however i am partially sighted and although being into photography way before my eye trouble, i have continued with my hobby purely for the subjects.
If i am using a telephoto lens it is probable that the first time i see the subject properly is when i see the photo on my PC, when taking it the chances are i am too busy composing, trying to ensure proper focusing to actually enjoy the subject.

I walk around with a 70-200 F2.8 and 1.4 extender most of the time and even landscapes are taken with it.
I have a Tamron 17-35 that i love but as my vision gets worse it does not get used very much for landscapes just trying to fit large subjects into my frame.
So for me the subject is the driving force, without my photos i would not enjoy the things around me as i just would simply not see them.

WHEN I SAY TO PEOPLE I AM INTO PHOTOGRAPHY BUT ALSO THAT I AM PARTIALLY SIGHTED I GET FUNNY LOOKS, I DONT THINK PEOPLE REALISE WHAT AN AID A TELEPHOTO LENS IS TO SOMEONE WITH SIGHT PROBLEMS.

My father was a wedding photographer for about 35 years. He only had sight in his left eye which was corrected (as far as possible) by a contact lens which was -2 dioptres stronger than the theoretical maximum the manufacturer could make (but they did it anyway).

I suspect that he saw a lot of things more clearly in the viewfinder than in real life.

Moved over to auto-focus when it first came out because of slightly blurred pics :) and just in the last two years moved from Bridge Camera to DSLR for a bright proper view finder.

long and short sighted and just lately developed double vision so have a prism fitted to one lens...........

guy at hospital said "which lens do you want it on,left or right"

Left I said quickly putting an imaginary viewfinder to my right eye.:lol:

After many years of 20/20 vision I got Diabetes six months or so ago and my eyes went pop so to speak. I'm not to the point that I can't realise easily what objects I'm looking at but it is frustrating that there is this hazy blur. I mainly get OOF comments now and swapped to a d200 convincing my missus that the extra focus points were essential. I don't let it stop me in any way though. I still get a few good results now and then and and the beep tells me when I'm on to a winner, well nearly every time :)

In late 2007 I had cateracts in both eyes sorted and vision has been great till 2 weeks ago when I started looking through a mist mostly in the right eye. Visited the optician and they refered back to the hospital to have lazer treatment on it which only takes a few minutes , but will cure the problem......I hope so anyway.

Am now waiting for appt at Moorfields Eye Hospital where the cateracts were done.

I`m in exactly the same boat, diagnosed 5 months ago.

Same as, are you type 1 or 2? I had my eyes check recently and i still have above average eyesight but before i was diagnosed my eyes started going blurry because of my sugars being so high. That was the most terrifying time of my life when I strugled to see more than 10feet infront of me!

Type 2, this is how I found out that there was a problem, walking along the road everything started to blur and I couldn`t even see the floor. I got tested by someone who thought it was diabetes and my sugar was up at 20.9.

Yeah I had the same but alongside other things which wasnt fun! You were lucky to catch it at 20.9, I was really ill and was admitted to hospitol as i was at 44. I felt so unbelievable awful!

Just have to get on with it now though! Its not big deal really, just do what the doc's say and live :-)

I was admitted a few weeks ago. I was measured at 30 :gag: the paramedic said he needed to get his equipment re calibrated but it was still 29 when I got to A&E. It was my own fault really for being a bit/lot slapdash with my meds and not really believing I was THAT ill.

You should have the "xpert program" in your area and if so get your doctor to get you on it as it is a real eye opener (no pun intended) I learned a great deal. It's a six week course on diet and understanding Diabetes X-Pert Program

Just checked out the site and it's pants  Course is great though.

Good Luck
John

Photography (pre-auto focus) was what made me realise I needed glasses, I found I was using the camera to correct my vision, whilst things looked fine in the viewfinder they were actually totally out of focus!

I am blind in my left eye (completely) but find my eyesight better than others I see lots more due to me being more aware of whats going on around me and using one eye more.....if you can understand

fully understand what you mean, I am in virtually the same boat, I am almost blind in my left eye. My kids always find it quite amusing as I am rubbish at catching anything.
