Hi

I forget to take my specs when I go out photo-ing. I wonder, if I can find out the correction values for my glasses (right eye) could I equate this to a dioptre adjustment on my viewfinder and then not need the glasses?

Am thinking this might explain why a lot of my photos dont seem well focussed. (Although it seems to happen on AF aswell as manual...)

Thanks

When you get your eyes tested they should tell you what the prescription is, from that you can work out which dioptric adjustment lens you will need to correct the view finder.

I bought one from Wharehouse express and it does help, not so much with AF but certainly with MF and seeing the info in the viewfinder.

Are you talking about the dioptre adjustment on the camera?

If so you just need to point the camera at a plain surface (not essential but it helps) and move the adjuster so that the AF marks are sharp in the viewfinder. If you cannot get them sharp then you need a stronger eyepiece correction lens as mentioned.

When using the diopter correction, I find it best to defocus the lens manually (so looking at a distant scene focus the lens at the nearest distance) so that I can concentrate on the focus marks and viewfinder information.

I too wear glasses for togging, but I wear them permanantly, so forgetting them is not an option! For a long time I struggled to get it (dioptre) focused correctly, then a poster on here told me to try my left eye (I ALWAYS used the right one) What a difference! It took some getting used to, indeed, I still revert sometimes, but a stigma in my right eye was the problem!

Thanks guys,

Didnt realise you had to view the focus marks to adjust it. Will give it a go.

Also a good tip about the left eye!
