Would be great to meet up with you guys so a couple suggestion needed please, everything is a compromise but... select your preferred three.
 
I'd like mountains but there aren't any within practical commute of Essex. Indeed any that are reachable for you are going to be too far for me, :(
I didn't vote on that basis but would find most of your options quite acceptable if it was nearby & affordable (many sports events don't come close to affordable IMO)
 
As with others its more about distance really, given travel times it tends to be a midday-ish meet which might mean the light isn't great for landscape. We've done villages, London, country fairs etc in the past. A pub lunch also seems popular ;)

Just to add, the black country living museum has been suggested in the past

That looks a cracking spot, caverns and mountains, ruined priory, canal waterways, castle and the living museum all within a square mile. With a bit of luck there might be an old pub with a cracking historical Mild ale

They both look good spots Suz

No feedback or preferences posted as yet.

The brum one is a bit more central and possibly much easier for the rail network.
 
There is a 1940s event on at the BLM on 11th July so it might be even busier or more attractive than usual.

Avonscroft has bromsgrove railway station a half hour walk or 10 minute car trip away. There also seems to be some kind of bus!

I think they're fairly equal on transport surprisingly. I assumed Avonscroft was in the arse end of nowhere but it looks like it actually isn't.
 
I might even be persuaded to unearth a film camera if the distance is practical, although I've got a couple of gigs in July that might clash (can't see the calendar from here)

That would be fantastic Suz for B&W and also the 1940's theme would match up humongously with some of your fantastic retro colour films!

Is there any interest in this Initiative?

What are the problems which put you off from attending ?

Wrong date, locations?

Give some feedback I am sure that we can work something out if we all put our heads together.

There doesn't seem to be a definite location, which may be why this dropped from sight.
 
Sirch and Suzy have both come up with Cracking locations

1) The Black Country Living museum, where Besides the stunning regular subject matter there is a 1940's themed weekend

2) The Avoncroft Museum of historic buildings which is in the west midlands and also looks fantastic

These are in the midlands so possibly equidistant for the furthest travelers. and well served by public transport, You retired guys with the rail passes have it made.:)

Date is good for me. I'd attend at either of these locations or anywhere else in that vicinity plus an hour's drive further south. Further north or east would be no problem as that brings me closer to home.

As an added incentive I'd be able to bring some "special" film for all attendees to try out, for free, in 35mm (short rolls can also be done in 12 or 18 exp if you dev your own) plus I'll have a go at putting a couple of 35mm lengths onto 120 backing paper for extra artiness/gimickery. A lucky couple of folk could have a C41 35mm or 120 as well. Again all gratis.
 
Avoncroft would be fave for me since I've not been there before and it's closer: I have a gig the night before and probably won't be home until 1am. I will check with 'she whose happiness is my concern' later.

It's not entirely altruistic. I'd be looking for some folks views on the films to gauge whether they go on my roster of my soon to launch online film, 2nd hand cameras, accessories and sub-mini retail business. It's all still free film mind :)

NB - I've had a previous brief PM with a different mod about advertising on the forum when I do launch. I will complete this just prior or on launch.

To not further derail this thread I'll have a PM discussion with a mod about a dedicated thread about my proposed business (not dissimilar to Chroma cameras).

Have a great time, a bit difficult with no cameras !
 
A day out sounds to be great! That date is right in the middle of our Suffolk trip dates, but as it's in a caravan, it is subject to having a good enough stretch of weather, so it is a possible for me.
My chief supervisor may come along too to make photographic suggestions.
 
A brief update,

Entrance fee is 15 quid per adult, I have not been able to establish if concessions are available. The site opens at 10 am and there is "ample" free parking. I suggest 11:00 assembly
Refreshments are available on site but picnic areas are plentiful.

The site is quite large at 19 acres but the range of displays probably requires that amount of space.

Attached is a link to the site map for your perusal, it details the huge range of fantastic displays which I am sure will provide some excellent photo opportunities.

 
Weather forecast is superb for next week !

Sunny with intermittent broken cloud 27 degrees.

I hope that your as excited as I am, this time next week I will be there, itchin' to go. :D

@Barney Do you have a rough idea of how many due to attend? I'm prepping the free film I'm bringing for attendees so want to ensure I bring enough for folks but that any excess doesn't cook in the car!
