Do we have a F&C south ? as most f&c events are opp North ?

Start a thread for a meet down south as tbh if I wanted to attend, flights to Gatwick and corresponding transport etc are definetily easier to organise than Northern locations….sorry guys!

Saying that, it does depend where down south as Penzance is possibly a tad awkward! :D

Anyway it's just an idea but I think it would interest quite a few folk including the northerners as if they're like I was when I lived in the UK, I didn't venture much further south than Wales on a regular basis, prefering to head for the Lakes, Dales and Scotland.
A bit stupid really as there are some beuatiful areas in the southern area of the UK, most of which I've never visited.

I can see a North v South groups 'Spirit of Christmas' photo contest coming on if we're not careful! :D ;)

I'm in Sussex...

If such a meet were to happen, drop me a line and organise a flight to EXT - I'll pick you up and take you down to Penzance for the meet!

In fact, I've attended one-day meets at Greenwich, Arundel, Suffolk, Stratford, Oxford and Bristol (and missed a couple of others), and we had a week-long meet in Cornwall last year, so I think the Sarth has been pretty well represented. It's just that recently a few of the northerners have been a bit more proactive in organising meets recently. But all it needs is for someone to come up with an idea and start a thread...

What a guy! :):ty:

Glad to see we have a southern posse in the F&C section

I will throw this out for next year , How about a weekend / long weekend on the Isle of Wight ?

"
The Isle of Wight a county and the largest and second-most populousisland in England. It is in the English Channel, about 2 miles (3.2 km) off the coast of Hampshire, separated by the Solent. The island has resorts that have been holiday destinations since Victorian times, and is known for its mild climate, coastal scenery, and verdant landscape of fields, downland and chines.

The isle was owned by a Norman family until 1293 and was earlier a kingdom in its own right.[6] The island has played an important part in the defence of the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth, and been near the front-line of conflicts through the ages, including the Spanish Armada and the Battle of Britain. Rural for most of its history, its Victorian fashionability and the growing affordability of holidays led to significant urban development during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Historically part of Hampshire, the island became a separate administrative county in 1890. It continued to share the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire until 1974, when it was made its own ceremonial county. Apart from a shared police force, there is now no administrative link with Hampshire, although a combined local authority with Portsmouth and Southampton was considered,[7]this is now unlikely to proceed.[8] Until 1995 the island had a governor.[n 1]

The quickest public transport link to the mainland is the hovercraft from Ryde to Southsea; three ferry and two catamaran services cross the Solent to Southampton, Lymington and Portsmouth.

I know somebody from Milton Keynes, but she'd rather stick pins in her eyes than actually say it.

She's from Back-ing-ham-shiiiiiire....not MK...:ROFLMAO:

:D but the posher area is South Bucks (y)

Yep, Southampton here :) keen for a meet down south :) Dorset perhaps? Just throwing that out there.

Dorset sounds a great idea, Jonathan. The western part seems in a bit of a transport black hole, IIRC, although with oodles of photographic opportunities. We spent a long weekend at West Bay last year, doing coastal path walks from Lyme Regis to the start of the shingle beach thingy (knew nothing about Broadchurch before going there!). Hoping to spend a week walking a bit further East, but don't seem to get round to organising it! Anyway, those areas seem better for a long weekend (or longer). But Dorset also goes further East, doesn't it? Would a day meet in Poole or even Bournemouth be worth doing? Then there's the New Forest...

Also a good idea, plenty of subjects there!

BTW, what is the "most populous island in England"?

Personally, I’m a big fan of the entire stretch of coast between Old Harry, and Durdle Door.

You have

Old harry
Chapmans pool
Kimmeridge
Tyneham village and cove
Mupe bay
Lulworth cove
Warbarrow bay
Durdle door

And inland,
Corfe castle
Swyre head

This is not exhaustive either, as I’ve not been everywhere :)

Populous is a Latin word that means simply "people." It was adopted by English in the 15th century to mean "full of people." The adjective populous is easy to confuse with the noun populace, "the people who live in a country," especially since they are homonyms, or words that sound exactly the same.

Yes... I did mean, which island has more people than Wight! Jonathan may be right, but I must say Portsmouth appears to be a weird sort of island, more of a technicality! :D

Since the bulk of the UK is an island, surely the mainland is the most populous island? I'll admit that it also holds 2 other countries though! :p

It's one other country and a principality. :p;)

Then there are us in no mans land, the bleedin' midlands, north of Watford and sarf of Gods own country. We are especially doomed in the East Midlands, neither here no there nor any bleedin' where...

I've been to Coventry :D But usually people down south rush through the Midlands to get to the interesting places further north. I'm sure there are some interesting\lovely places in the Midlands but I've never explored the area :(

Well you could be an old fart..but wait I have a terrible short term memory and did I see you at meet at the peak or Whipsnade?

I was at whipsnade Bri and I'm sure Simon wasn't there :whistle: Sounds like you could do to request an elephant from Santa ( they NEVER forget!):D
