'F' mount changed..? Old Nikon body cap will not fit.

I thought the Nikon 'F' mount had remained unchanged since it's conception.

An old body cap, BF-1, from the 70's/80's will not fit my new D7000, in fact it won't go anywhere near it.

It will enter the body but refuses to turn more than a degree or two, forcing it further will only damage something, cap or camera not sure which.

The cap, BF-1B embossed Nikon F Mount, which came with the camera obviously fits.

On inspection there appears to be no difference between the mounts of the two caps, the tops being vastly different.

odd - I certainly wouldn't force it though

Thinking about it my first film bodies came with mount caps that fitted over the mount, rather then screwed in - that would be pretty obvious though

Although the mount is the same I would be careful as the cameras themselves are different, you may be hitting the mirror or focusing screen (or something else) in the camera.

I think the older body caps meet the electrical contacts that communicate with the lens rather than any of the mechanical parts. I still wouldn't try to force it though! You should be able to get the correct body cap from a well stocked dealer (which reminds me that I want one to create a pinhole "lens").
