I am looking for a film camera, the question is either F100 or F5. I'm not to bothered about the cost difference, its more about the handling and battery life. Its main use will be for b/w landscape work also b/w at weddings. I'm open to suggestions.:help:

I have an F5 and much prefer using that over my D200. It's an absolute gem of a camera!

Thanks for the help.
I also am using a D200 and looked at some b/w photos at the lab last week that where shot on film, the difference was incredible.

Tbh, I've rescinded my advice now.

If you have manual lenses, then something like a F3 would be better actually from my experience, But if you have AF FX lenses, then F5 would at least offer good metering/AF

I wouldn't recommend an F3 for weddings unless you intend to take no flash or fill in whatsoever, it's a lovely camera and ideal for landscape and documentry type stuff with a beautiful feel and quality but the wierd flash connections and low sync speed make awkward to use in bright conditions with flash.

The F5 is the best "manual" film camera from Nikon so that would be what I'd give a thumbs up to.

I think the F5 is the camera bargain of the moment. Considering there is still a demand for film cameras and they don’t make them any more prices must go up.

The only problem with the F5 is the weight, when its full of batteries it’s pretty heavy if you want something to lug about all day something like the F75 may be better.

Why not? My father used an F3 for weddings for many years (but yes, the flash connection is a bit weird).

Steve.

F100 all the way, I have one and swapping between it and my D700 is easy, I jst expect to see the LCD on the back of the F100 after taking the shot... :nono:

You can also grip the F100 if you feel inclined that way.

It will depend on the lenses he's got. Manual focus isn't easy on a f5

Thanks
All my lens are auto focus.

Wonder if spending £300 on 35mm would it be better to go on toMF for my landscape stuff?
Decision decision:bang::bang:

It comes down to what you're looking to get out of it. 35mm is the most versatile tool you'll get in terms of the applications you can put it to use with but the quality you'd get from medium format can't be challenged by 35mm film or digital. If the weight and portability of the F5 ever acted as a negative in your consideration then forget MF, it'll be far harder to lug around than an F5 (I have no problems with the F5 in terms of weight/size btw).

MF is the way to go if you want quality. IMHO 12mp of digital is generally a lot better than 35mm run through your average lab.
With MF you have all the same hassle and expense of using 35mm film but the results are much much better.
