I've used the Gorillpod to form a rudimentary shoulder stock to help stabilise a camera in low light, but hadn't thought of try that method.

While using it in america with the D60 I use to place one leg on my chest, with the other 2 over each shoulder

Tbh, don't think I've even tried the Pod with the D700, grip and lens, not sure it could take the weight.

I've got the trek-tech t'pod & it holds my gripped D700 & 70-200 VRII.. Even upside down with those "earth magnets" - those things would hold an elephant on concord at mach 1
