In between two perspex sheets from old photoframes, around a 4-5mm gap filled with dilute fairly liquid. Lit from below with an LED light and diffused through kitchen roll. K5 and Sigma 105.

Nice image, now you might want to try to capture birefringence using the same setup.
You will need 2 polorising filters. One to put over the light source and another for the camera lens. The poloriser over the light source can be either a linear or circular type, the one on the lens will need to be a circular type.
Rotate the filter on the lens and you should see a myriad of rainbow colours and stress patterns.
