Fake Batteries?

Have been looking for a Nikon EN-EL 15 battery. There seem to be 2 price brackets, one in the £50 plus range from the main dealers and one in the upper £30-40 range from Amazon. Both are referred to as Nikon batteries, not 'FOR NIKON'. There are quite a few reviews on Amazon disussing fake batteries. Can anyone throw any light on whether the cheaper range from Amazon are safe to buy if I want to be sure of getting the genuine article. Comments please. mere:bang:
 
Cannot really comment on Nikon batteries but I bought a couple of cheaper batteries for my 7D and they would not charge in the charger, had to buy a third party charger to charge them.
 
I'd steer clear of amazon if you want genuine, I read some reviews so it seems there is a right mix up on there, buy from a reputable shop would be my advice.
 
If the cheaper ones are actually from Amazon rather than being through the Amazon market place, they should (if labelled and sold as Nikon rather than for Nikon) be genuine - I would be suspicious of marketplace sellers and even more so of e-Bay sellers flogging "genuine" batteries cheap (rather than discounted).
 
Not so good Spike. This price difference between Amazon and the main dealers is staring me in the face and I am asking why. It's the size of the price difference. Anyway have emailed Amazons supplier for a guarantee that they are genuine (or otherwise?)

Spike, when buying canon third party batteries you need to ensure they're the coded type to be compatible with Canon's chargers.
With regards to the third party batteries, you'll find the LI-ION cells are usually produced in the same factory. I rarely buy genuine unless it's for my 1DX and that's literally because it's such an expensive piece of kit that I don't want a potential battery failure etc!
 
Have bought batteries from Amazon before and they had a Nikon label. Maybe this still isn't a guarantee.
 
Just looked again at Amazon. The battery at £39 is marked 'Fulfilled By Amazon' whereby it is stored and despatch by Amazon. Thats obviously no guarantee at all that it is genuine. It looks like if I want genuine stuff it will have to bought from main dealers and we all know who they are. Thanks for steering me away on this one although I am a great supporter of Amazon ( it would be better if they paid their taxes mind you!!) Will be getting banned for that comment!

Thing is, even if Amazon do / don't pay their taxes it won't have any effect on the average joe :)
 
Got a reply directly from the dealer confirming DEFINITELY genuine stock?! Would you go ahead and buy on the strength of this? merv:bang:
 
I bought a 'genuine' Nikon battery from a 'fulfilled by Amazon' seller a couple of years ago. When I received it, the label was slightly different to the one which came with my camera, but otherwise looked and felt OK. However, when I compared it to the guide to counterfeit batteries on the Nikon website, it matched the dodgy one exactly. Fortunately, being 'fulfilled by Amazon' made it easy to return.
