Famers field shoot question

Hi all,

I am taking some photos of my friends family tonight. Him, his wife and two
young boys.

I've suggested a nearby field and using the hay bales to set a nice photo.
Something a bit different and to use the bale as a natural prop.

Anyone else done a similar shoot?

Would you say its ok to just go onto the field, I have tried a couple of
local farms to ask who owns the land but cant get an answer anywhere.

I figure if we are found and asked to leave then thats fair enough, just
dont know what else I can do.

Cheers.

Trespass is not a criminal offence in England, so you can't be arrested for that alone (if you refuse to leave, then you may be). But as you said, if you get asked to leave and do, then unless you cause damage then you will be ok.

also worth mentioning, hay bales can be unstable particularly if stacked. it wouldnt be unheard of that people have died as a result of falling/crushing etc. apply common sense and you should be fine though.

Yes they are heavier than you'd think, if they are the round ones stay uphill of them, even someone leaning could start it rolling if theres enough slope.

+1

Climbed enough when I was younger to know how unstable these things are!

we were shifting about 200 of the rectangular bales from a farmers field for the other week for the yard the OH rides at, the stacks were very iffy. unbalanced, big holes youd lose your leg/knee/ankle in etc. heavy buggers too if a couple came down on you.

Pop in the nearest pub, someone in there will know who owns the field. Be very careful at the moment going anywhere near stacked straw. There have been a number of arson attacks in fields in my local area and quite understandably farmers are a bit tetchy.

Also, weren't straw thefts on the rise because of the poor harvest/high prices as foodstuff. There might be a few worried/annoyed farmers.

Cheers everyone, will see how I get on!

No problem, shoot away.

By the way, next week i`m bringing some of my mates round to your house, we will be taking some shots in the garden, the garage and your bathroom, is that OK?

Didn`t think so. Farmers are very protective of THEIR land, but if you go and ask, be polite and explain what you want to do, then they may well give permission.

Sweet and to the point ............. :D

It is Steve, but it oh so true. Farmers do not like people wandering willy nilly on their land, but if approached in the right way and politely, the majority are fine.

Indeed!

Quick update, eventually managed to get hold of the farmers wife who gave me permission so made me much more comfortable doing the shoot.

The game keeper for the land did question me but when I mentioned the permission he was fine and was happy for us to continue.

Really dull dusky night even at 6pm but managed to get a few.
