Nope the 7d is shooting raw I made sure.

In which case colours should be almost exactly the same, the only difference will be if one is shooting RAW+JPEG and the other just RAW (if we're looking at the camera screen)

Also, if you're chimping, iirc the 40D screen is 232k dot, whereas the 7D is 1040k dot. The 7D is always going to look better on camera.

Thank you for the info

It indoor shooting the prob I hate using flash so try avoid it but using my canon 50mm 1.4 on my 40d was not as good as 7d I believe this due to better iso handling and higher iso? Also the auto iso on 40d wont go higher than 800 why this as on the 7d it went all the way up to it max

ISO handling on the 7D is exactly the same as the 550d, 600d and 60d, just fyi

Check the ISO settings, it's probably automatically limited to 800 ISO so that all shots are guaranteed to be usable, you can almost certainly change the limit.

From what I've read some claim that the latter camera(s?) are better than the 7D at higher ISO settings due to them suffering less banding. Certainly there seem to be some sample shots on the net that seem to bare this out.

My 7d is head and shoulders above my old 40d on iso. It goes much higher and is much cleaner at the same iso settings. A lot of crap has been propagated across the web about noise and the 7d.
 
My reply was about latter 18mp cameras, not 40D v 7D.

Anyway, the sample images are on the net and it's up to potential buyers to make their own mind up.
