I have had a problem with this pistol grip ball head.

The problem was that it no longer had a tight enough grip on the ball, the twist grip setting worked perfectly and by adjusting it as far as possible to tighten up the grip on the ball only made the twist grip to tight.

I was about to take it apart after downloading the parts diagram from the Manfrotto site, when I noticed the ball had a greasy surface. I then wiped all the grease off using a cloth and degreaser liquid by turning the grip exposing 90% of the ball.

This has now cured the problem and it now works perfectly:)

If I remember right theres a small Allen key that you can tighten to alter the resistance..the thumb well is just for fine tuning the grip

Oil on your nuts I could understand, but grease on your balls?

Someone else must have greased my ball :D

The 322 comes with its ball pre-greasefd. Despite the grease, my ball is still gripped tightly enough to hold a racked out 150-500 with the body mounted to the head rather than the lens foot. It's possible (since yours was second hand) that your ball's been regreased and the wrong type of grease has been used - but that's between you and whoever may have greased your ball!

Never had a problem with mine, however, greased balls is an entirely different story :naughty:
