I have purchased a HP monitor for use with my macbook pro but i am having a few problems.:bang:

1) the only cable of the three supplied that fits is a USB one (and i think i need DVI)

2) The Autorun feature on the install disc doesn't autorun, and when i try to manually install i don't know the application i need

Any help with this would be a greatly appreciated and feel free to call me a pillock for asking what are probably very simple questions to answer

Thanks

Andy

You wont need any drivers - ignore that install disk. You will almost certainly need a DVI cable - assuming the monitor has a DVI out I am surprised it didn't come with one. What model Macbook Pro do you have? If it is one of the new ones then I believe they no longer have a DVI port but instead have a Mini Display Port so you will need a Mini Display Port to DVI adaptor.

ahhh ok yes its the newest Macbook pro so it looks like i need the DVI adapter then

Thanks for the rapid response  :clap::clap:

Cheers

Andy

Does your Macbook come with any video adapters? If you are going to need that DVI one. I know you could get cheap ones off ebay for the iBook etc and I got and used these in the past! Shame they removed the DVI port.

nope  didnt come with any cables. The monitor has come with two different cables which im guessing are VGA and DVI. Will have to pick up an adaptor when im next home.

If you need a mini dvi to dvi adaptor sending out let me know as I have a spare here.

Hi DB

That is a very kind offer, just to clarify though and avoid any confusion. I am not in Doha yet. i travel early tomorrow.

If the offer is still open i would be happy to make a donation to TP as thanks

Andy

Can I just point out that there are several different Apple macbook to DVI adapters

The adaptor I have is the Mini-DVI to DVI as supplied with the Mac Mini...

Let me know if any use and I can get it in the post tomorrow. It is brand new and still in wrapping.

DB

Okay, may not be the right one for the MBP then.

Some pics anyway just in case (this is of the one currently used on my comp - the original is still in the wrapper)

Looking at the Pictures and comparing them to the port on my MBP, im not sure the mini DVI connection is the same DB. I will sort something when i get back in October as i need to get a wireless keyboard also. And i can't use the monitor when i go, bit to big for hand luggage

A big thankyou for your help DB, Jason and Mr C

Much Appreciated

Andy

Enjoy Doha!
