Processing brings out the detail very effectively.
2nd works best for me, maybe because there are less shots of this subject.

like both, I think number one for me could be made more agressive post processing, number two I might try portrait leaving space at the bottom and just dropping the top edge like you have and maybe make the posidrive screwheads look like nails by editing out the crosses..

yes i didnt really achieve a burnt effect which i was trying to create around the edges, and looking at it again the black does seem a bit harsh,

I love the both of these there are nice details in both of them I have to say that I'm also one that falls in the not for me camp on the black border but other than that it works well

Colours of the first one are very nice but it could be a bit sharper. The second one I like the subject, it has good detail and colour but feel a more subtle vignette would be better than the harsh black border it has and perhaps a better composition is needed where the top of the door knocker is not cropped off. A subject well worth trying again with if you can.
