Did a friend's series this weekend, who happens to be a rather stunningly handsome pianist, shot all day around London and into the night. Since he and I are friends, I took advantage of his rather cheeky/nose-up look in a few frames which does in some way represent his charming character (very 'a la 007'), so don't think I wasn't aware of those particular poses lol.
C&Cs are always welcomed.
I have my favourites, but shan't disclose just yet!
In general though, I do love the grainy & manually focused b&w's very much... just so film like.

Looks like i am first to post but here goes.

Love them all and quite jealouse that you have a photogenic friend that is happen to be photographed all day into the night.

C&C
I really like the B&W conversions and the use of the natural lighting from street lights and windows, this gives the shot a great high key the only thing and this is only personel preference is that there was a little detail in the suite.

hey, thanks for stopping by ;).
the monos were not converted, i never convert, i shoot in mono always, and do very little colour shots.
well he was quite impressed with the results and kept buying me coffee and goodies throughout the day as repayment lol.

can I ask what lens(is) you used, the bokah is great, not a fan of the washed out background in many of them, though no3( favourite) the lighting just adds somthing, cracking shot

Excellent set. 17,24 and 28 really stand out for me. Did you shoot these all on film or JPG on the 5D?

As has been said, you're lucky to have someone like this to pose for you.

lens used for the night shots was a 35mm 1.4, just for the aperture as i like natural night shots.
shot as JPG on the 5D
I gave him all the direction for his poses (and as I did, he was thinking "wtf?!" haha, but when he saw them it all made sense, i also gave him a long descriptive type speech beforehand about how he had to open up for me, and so forth... I think it worked well, as he has a tendency in his photos to do the classic one put on pose which is lifeless).

Actually very very good work and some stand out photos there. Lovely use of light and rim and great BW tones. I prefer the first set as the London streets are in keeping with his sharp look - the urb graffiti look a little out of place but stand up well.

Overall, a bloody good body of work - of which 3 wins due to the lead out line into the corner.

Nice one.

I saw these on Flickr Alex, great stuff, I really like them. And they do have a very "007" feel to them :D

It's really hard to pick favourites as theres quite a few in there I like.

Hi Alex

What a yummy friend??? and he definately has the come to bed eyes look mastered!

Lots of iamges but just to pick a few favs its 2, 6 & 17 for me. Very nice.

I'm less keen on the graffiti images - think it looks a little too staged and he just looks a little too clean shaven for his surroundings maybe?

Anna

nice images and great look.

Most impressed by the mono and night ones. great ideas and inspiration. some look fashion and one in particular reminded me of a Next photo from a the catalogue (image no.13) this is a compliment by the way! nice coat

no's 1-6 and 17-22 are my faves.

thanks for sharing

thanks for feedback guys.
nothing wrong with looking like a Next catalogue shot :D!!
yes he does have a rather 'come to bed' look, gets on my nerves a bit, lol.
am looking forward to doing another shoot with him.
he insisted on paying but i dont like doing business with friends!

Wow...hello hansom! Lol, great model and photography.

Really like 17 and 37.

Oh yeah, does he happen to be single??!!

i do wonder sometimes if either i can't take a decent colour pic, or if instead my mono pics are just really good......(really has my head spinning).

I'll let you know when I'm finished with him!

I really like this set, great poses and great model. The bokeh is fantastic. I feel the eyes could do with a little lift in some of the pics, only because he has great eyes, its a shame to not show them.
All in all greeeeeaaat stuff!
Dean:)

This is indeed a fine set and it's great to see some portraits worth looking at. My one concern is the sheer number of shots posted, are you looking for critique? If so then there's simply too many to offer any criticism of any worth, if not then I still think that you could have whittled the number down to half a dozen of the best shots and still kept the feel of the whole shoot.

I think you could benefit from exercising some more control when it comes to selection as suggested by NorthernNikon. You have groups of images that are very similiar, while they may be equally good between themselves, it tends to lessen the impact of the individual images as people generally switch off when they are shown the same thing over and over.

I am not sure if it is my monitor as I haven't calibrated it in a while, but some of the blacks are very dark that sometimes it makes for some odd viewing such as the hand in 3 and 4.

On the whole you've captured some cool images. I think 5 is my favourite with its more unusual angle and a certain atmosphere.

Nice set, with 3 and 6 being my favourites. The only improvement to the set I can suggest is to tone down the red of that watch in 16. For me it was like a giant pimple - once I'd seen it, I just couldn't stop looking at it.

thanks for replies. yes i suppose there are wayyyy to many same type shots, but the problem i always have is choosing one of the series (!!!) d'oh! lol
