Fashion shoot tips please

I’ve been asked to shoot a fashion show. Nothing major – no professional models.

Nevertheless I want to do a good job.

Kit wise I’ve got A DSLR, 50mm Prime (F1.8), Kit lens 18-55mm and a 70-300mm. Lighting wise I’ve got a twin head large softbox kit with background.

So, I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips please. Helpful hints on lighting setup particularly appreciated.

Cheers.

you don't mention which dslr - some behave very differently in terms of high iso noise

whats the lighting gonna be like? what else do you know about the location

if its a show I would leave the softboxes at home as if its a show they will be moving so it will be a pain to get the light right or you'll have to set it for 1 position and wait. Also it could be a bit distracting for all concerned I prefer to shoot most things like that ambient tbh

hehehe, probably should have done that myself, so the 400d doesn't mis behave that much under high iso's should be fine @400, glass is quite slow (f4.5 @55mm or f4@70mm I think) but should be fine.

Again it really depends on the lighting there

Maybe you could rent a f/2.8 zoom lens, which may just be a life saver if the lighting is low?

Disclaimer: I'm a beginner, but it is an idea I'd think about in your position. :)

Thanks chaps. Yep Canon 400d.

OK. I'm going to recce the gig next week so will have a better idea of lighting then.

I've started thinking along the lines of shooting with flash (i.e camera mounted) as the models walk down the catwalk. Plus setting up my studio lights in the corner of the room to take some shots before and after the event. Does that seem like a good idea?
