I am looking for a fast & wide lens to use with my recently purchased D750 for a trip to Norway next month to take photos of the Northern Lights. I will also be taking 50 F1.8, 24-120 F4 and a 70-300 F3.5 for daytime use.
My thinking is because I will spend a lot of time on board a moving ship I will need to use high ISO & wide aperture to keep the shutter speed short.
After a lot of research, I have narrowed my choice down to two;

1) Nikon 20mm F1.8 AF-S
2) SAMYANG AE 14mm f / 2.8 ED

Obviously the Nikon is twice the price of the Samyang, but I am thinking it might be more useful for general landscape photography after my trip & therefore it may be a better long term purchase?

Has anyone any thoughts to help me decide, or indeed suggest alternative lenses? I will consider used alternatives too.

I have looked at Tamron, Tokina, & Sigma short zoom alternatives too but I find it difficult to determine which are DX and which are FX.

Thanks

How wide is wide for you? You could also consider the Samyang 24 1.4.

Ideally I was looking for wider than 24mm, at least 20mm. My thought was the 20mm Nikon would be more use than the 14mm Samyang after my trip, however I could always sell the Samyang afterwards as suggested by Alex (a1ex2001).
