Faulty Canon s95 : Return to Amazon or direct to Canon

I bought a Canon s95 about 3 months ago from Amazon. A couple of days ago it developed a stuck sensor pixel (actually it must be a stuck cluster of pixels because it's even visible on the built in display without zooming.)

As it's only 3 months old I hope I hope to get in repaired under the warranty.

I'm looking for for recommendations about whether it would be better to return to Amazon - who have the legal responsibility for the warranty - or direct to Canon?

Any advice about past experiences gratefully received.

I would let Amazon sort it for you if I were you, I take it that it was from Amazon itself and not the Amazon marketplace?

I've had stuff replaced with new months after purchase by them. Their customer service is generally excellent in my experience.

I'm not saying Canon wouldn't sort it efficiently as well though.

I'd go with Amazon as well as their service for faulty goods is normally very good.

Yes, it was from Amazon, not a marketplace vendor.

Looks like I'll go for the Amazon return then. Thanks.

Just an update, for anyone who might stumble on this thread in the future.

I have been in touch with Amazon, who have asked me to return the camera direct to Canon.

As I understand it, under the sales of goods act the seller is responsible for 12 months, regardless of what the manufacturer may supply.

If you are so inclined and want Amazon to handle this matter for you I would politely decline their advice and request that they are obliged to handle the matter under the SOGA. I'm pretty sure they will do so.

...or you could just send it to Canon. Depends how belligerent you are feeling I guess!
