faulty focus lights

i have a canon 600d which takes perfect photos, however the red focus lights do not light up when the camera has focused, any ideasa whats wrong and how much to repair, also the when looking through the viewfinder i can see dirt and scratches, again any idea how much to repair thanks for looking

Do you have the focus mode set to AI Servo? The lights only flash in One Shot or AI Focus.

The dirt and scratches are probably on the focusing screen. Try cleaning it with a rocket blower. If that doesn't work, you can replace it yourself if you are careful. Or take to your local camera shop for a quote.

cheers for the info, i have the camera in one shot, i do get a dull red light across the bottom of the centre square if that makes sense,

On my 550d I had a similar problem, where the lights gradually diminished - in the end I sent it back to Canon under warranty and there was a problem with the focussing screen which they fixed, and it worked fine after that

Recently had a similar issue with my 650D and had the focusing screen replaced and that sorted it out.. Price wise the screen was about £15 and £20 for someone to fit it.
