Faulty Tokina 11-16mm

My Nikon fit Tokina 11-16mm has stopped communicating with my camera. It no longer sends any exposure or focus data. I have tried cleaning the contacts and fiitting it to a spare body; but no joy :'(. My guess is either a bad connection or blown cpu.

It is over two years old so no longer covered by warranty.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I was wondering how difficult it would be to take it apart to check the connections or if I should just send it off for repair. Can anyone recommend a company to send it to and approximately how much it would cost? Apart from the fact that it doesn't work its in perfect condition :)
 
Below is a copy of an email I received after making an enquiry about the repair of a Tokina 24-200mm.

Dear Michael,

We can have a look at the lens for you, £20 + VAT inspection charge and our standard repair charge is £84 + VAT plus the cost of any parts required.

As it is an older lens, there may be some issues with availability of spares.

If you would like us to have a look, please send your lens along with a note detailing the problem to the address below.

It looks like it will cost well over £100 to get it repaired, but it's not much use as it is.
