Just another one of my "I wonder" moments..........................
I am looking for a new macro lens but currently can ill afford the £200+ prices that people seem to be asking for them.

I was wondering if it was a viable opition to look at using a FD mount lens with the apporipiate adaptor on a an EOS camera??????

Just wondering if any one has tried this or uses lens this way?
 
Yes, I used the FD 100mm f/4 on a 40D using an FD/EOS adapter without any glass. You lose infinity focus which for macro work doesn't matter and the adapter acts like a very short extension tube. Quality was very good.
 
For macro work they are ok. For general use, forget about FD lenses, except if they were converted to EOS bayonet.
You may also want to take a look at Nikon, Olympus, Contax/Yashica, Leica R, Pentax PK or M42 lenses. 95% of them work perfectly in any Canon EOS body, without limitations.

My recommendation if you want something amazing without spending too much:

Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 (or f/3.5) Ai-S Micro. ;)

Macro is what I am looking for. I am happy enough with my other lens I have (altohugh a 2x convertor would not go amiss). I just can't afford the huge prices of EF and EF fit macros that I have seen around.

So how would this work with a Canon EOS 20D.................are there adaptors that allow this mix of makes to be made?????

The lens I have my eye on possibly getting for macro work is a Tamron SP 1:2.5 90mm (apparently it has a Adaptall 2 on the end of it as well?????).
