FF Lens options

At the moment i am shooting a canon 7d2 with a canon 17-40 or 55-250stm lens most of the time as i like the focal range that these lens's give me.
I am thinking of getting a new lens for my 5d that will give me similar performance to the 55-250stm
Image quality is important, i want something which is renowned for sharpness etc.

My options are open on lens manufacturer ie canon, sigma etc

It has crossed my mind, for about a nano second, but then i gave myself a slap with a cold wet fish, which brought me back to reality

I'm having the same dilemma to you.
I've been more than happy with my 70-200 F4 IS on my 7D (mk1), but since switching to a 5D3, I'm missing the extra (apparent) length (yes, yes I know)...
I've got a Sigma 150-500 but in truth I find it a bit on the heavy side which make me ponder the 70-300L or saving harder for the 100-400L mk2

I think we're pretty much in the same boat so rather than starting a new thread I'd like to hear the thoughts of the massed canon conciousness on this too.
