I quite agree. I have a generic lead attached to the top of the desk, and all the chargers close by. When I need a battery charged, I just select the charger, and plug it in.

The make is of absolutely no consequence whatsoever, they are probably all made by another manufacturer anyway. Just ensure that you have the correct fuse fitted.
 
I have a few permanently plugged in behind cupboards so I can use them whenever needed (the sockets are behind the cupboards, the leads are available!). Most of my chargers/power supplies etc use the (?Telefunken?) figure 8 system so they're very handy. As Douglas said, make sure the fuse is suitable (3A should be more than enough) and away you go.

was just going to ask what fuse rating to use!
 
Been using a long one from an old cassette player for ages and yes 3 amp fuse would be fine

To add to what's been said, there isn't really such a thing as "genuine Canon", I've had a look in 2 boxes (I never bother to take them out of the box as I have enough already scattered around the house) and it's just a cheap Chinese lead, one is badged as "I-Sheng" and the other has no name.
 
The one from my 5D3 has 'I-Sheng' on it too.
Been using it for both chargers, so i suppose i can manage with the one, although my old hi-fi seperates which i'm selling on fleabay are missing theirs too!!
 
Whilst there is no such thing as a genuine canon power lead, please be very careful when buying cheap ones from eBay, amazons etc.

Cheap cables manufactured in back street factories can be poor quality, have poor quality plastics that are not fire retardant and may not be fused.

A cable shouldn't cost a lot, but get one from a reputable source.
