File size when printing

No
I recently ordered loads of prints from DSCL, and they were fantastic (18x12). The size of image they asked for were 5400 x 3600 pixels and my camera produces files slightly smaller than this so I had to scale them up. In just a couple of the images I noticed just a touch of noise in the sky and this seemed to be caused by making the file size bigger.

The question is should I be able to send files slightly less than mentioned on there site and expect less noise? They say they only recommend 5400 x 3600, but surely my camera should be capable of 18 x 12 prints from a 12mp file.

christ 5400x3600 that is big!! i have a 12 mp camera thought that was big.

what u using to enlarge the picts?

Make sure are you using are "Save as..." and got 100% quality and not "Save for Web & Devices..."

I made the mistake of optimising some of my images by mistake and lost some quality but luckily I had back of the original files. Since I never save over original files... I think if you save png or tif you dont lose quality either but dont quote me on that.

Were you using bicubic smoother?

The other option is to buy Genuine Fractals, we've had huge prints from 8MP cameras after enlarging with that.

FWIW I'd prefer to let my computer do the enlarging rather than the printer. Did you check the quality of the enlarged image before you sent it?

No, just photoshop.
I sawslight banding in the sky, but nothing major.

I will be moving to 5D MKII shortly so hopefully the problem will go away anyway.
