Hi Guys,

Just got a new laptop and in the process of setting it all up. However, being new to photography I haven't really started processing my pictures properly so I was wondering how everyone has set up there files for storing, working, and backing up the pics?

I am thinking of setting up a folder or partition on my disc drive called 'photography' the having a folder for RAW, then Final JPEG and within each of those folders label each session by date with a description. Does that sound logical? Any other suggestions?

Cheers,

Del

My system is

Photos Partition
Date and event (e.g. 11-12-25 Christmas Day)
Processed (where I store all my processed images for that folder)

Then I back that all up onto another HDD and have a separate Processed folder on another HDD separated into types of photography (landscape, sport etc) with the processed images and the associated RAW file). Means it's easy to find the event and the processed images as well as having at least one backup.

I couldn't care less about the folder/filesystem. Metadata is the key, products like Aperture if you have a Mac or Lightroom for a PC is the key and let them manage it.
