I've got a project at college, and have been asked to find prices of local processing labs for 35mm, medium format and large format.

The way Ive been taught is refering to films as
-35mm
-Medium format
-large format or 5x4, 8x10 etc

Looking at developoment labs they are talking about '120' and '220' films, which is confusing me.

Could anybody help clear this up?

Thankyou,
Laura

Effectively 120 and 220 are virtually the same.

For example a 120 film has a paper backing on it and generally when using a 6x6 MF camera you will get 12 pictures.

A 220 film has no backing paper and is there for slightly longer meaning you would get 16? pictures on the same film camera.

I suppose because you get more images then the processing labs will charge a little more.

220 film gives twice as many exposures as 120 as it is twice as long.

This is medium format. Image size may be 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 and occasionally, 6x12 and 6x17 (all in cm).

The larger the format, the fewer frames per roll. e.g. 6x4.5 is usually 15 or 16 frames on 120, 6x6 is 12 frames, 6x7 is 10, etc. (twice as many for 220 film).
