Film use by date

Amongst my friends cameras I found some unused rolls of 35mm film. The date on the boxes is October 2006.
1/Is it safe to use in a camera, is there a chance of sticking or jamming the mechanism.
2/Will it have deteriorated badly so as not to be processable.
 
2006 should be fine, I have been using 1999 film recently and it was stored in a cupboard with no ill effects.

Do you know how it was stored, a cold dark place is best.
 
keep it in the fridge and it lasts forever :D

won't damage the camera, but might develop strangely if its been stored somewhere hot
 
Film is in the plastic cans, in sealed boxes. Stored in a bedroom cupboard, so I guess it will be fine.
 
As has been said...keep your film in the fridge in a sandwich box. Just ran a couple of rolls of out of date Kodak film through my film cameras to great effect. Keep it cool...otherwise it's only good for lomo type stuff.
 
If there are several rolls of the same film from the same batch, I would suggest shooting one roll as a test - it'll probably be OK but IMO, it's worth the sacrifice of one roll to check; far better than realising after shooting a few rolls that they all needed a stop more or less of exposure.
