Filter Adapter Ring Size

Hi all,

I'm about to buy a Cokin P Series ND Grad Filter kit but understand I need an adapter ring as well?

Can someone point me in the right direction please. I have a Canon EOS 550D with the kit lens (18-55mm) - does that mean I need a 55mm adapter ring?

No 55mm is the end of your focal length, at the end of your lens there is a circle with a line through it at 45 degrees (looks like a plannet) next to that is the number of the size you need.. iirc the 18-55 is 58mm
 
I just checked one here... it is indeed 58mm (front of lens it has Ø58mm - that's the filter diameter)
