Yes
I just got my first DSLR and was wondering about any useful or hand filter and what situation to use them in?

thanks.

Assuming I've got the question right, I'd advise getting a circular polarizing filter, although useless now until summer I think it's a great filter if you're planning on doing landscapes.

Personally I'd want a nice 10stop ND filter too for some crazy long exposures in the day but I can only dream lol.

I find myself using a polarizer when shooting places with lots of glare. I have a couple of ND filters, but I rarely use them. A standard UV filter for the front of all your lenses to protect the front element is not a bad idea either.
