Filter help please

Hi there done some searching but cant find the answer,setting a twin canon 300d with sigma 70-300 rig up for 3D,i need a couple of filters,uv,sky light ?,due to the fact the gear isnt top quality and every thing i buy needs buying twice i didn't want to ask which are the best filters.
Could do with a few pointers into the middle market sector,my knowledge is about 8 years out of date.

What do you want the filters for? On a digital camera UV/skylight filters don't do anything other than stop you scratching the front element of the lens, I wouldn't bother if you're only using cheap lenses.

As above, save your money. UV/skylight filters serve no purpose other than degrading image quality and enhancing flare.
Only use them if you are in a warzone/rally/sandstorm.

Not a sandstorm but got a few weekends planned for seal and pup shots and would rather remove sand ect off a filter which is a lot cheaper to throw away if needed.

Your call. I've been on Brighton beach in winter with a full storm and my lenses were fine.
A lenspen and microfibres cloth and jobs a goodun. In fact in 10 years I've never damaged a lens and I don't treat my gear with kiddy gloves. It gets used!

If you must have them, expect to pay between £20-50 each, depending on the filter size. Stick with Hoya HD or B&W.

I use UV/Skylight for protection as I'm often on a sandy beach and once sand and salt water and any other crap is on your lens pen, specialist cleaning cloth or old rag unless you instantly clean it thoroughly it's there next time your raise to your lens.

I just use cheapo ones from 7dayshop or Amazon. IMVHO they don't degrade the image quality to any detectable extent and if you use a lens hood you shouldn't experience any significant additional flare. The only significant visual effect that I've spotted is when shooting directly at a light source as when you do that you'll get a double/ghost reflection and an expensive UV will create exactly the same result. Other than that, cheapo ones are fine IMVHO.

Thanks Alan will look into those,ime old school anyway and would always use a lens hood.

Thats ok Alan anaglyph 3D is a double image anyway
