Filters are the next thing I really need to invest in, but I must admit I find the subject a bit confusing.

For example - yesterday in London it was bright and sunny but also very hazy so any skyline shots from high up were difficult to take to get a clear shot. Even though to the naked eye there was a nice "buildings through the haze" type shot.

What filter would have helped in this situation? An ND?? (I was using a sigma 10-20mm if that makes a difference).

TIA :)

To cut through haze you need a polarising filter, unfortunately on UWA lenses their effect is patchy as you can't polarise everything equally over such a wide angle with a single piece of glass.

Thanks Nawty. It was a shame as I thought there was a decent shot there.

You need a Circular Polariser - will need to be ultra-thin though to fit on your sigma 10-20 without vignetting (i.e. Hoya Pro-1D) which aren't exactly cheap.

And, despite what some people believe, they DO work on wide-angle lenses, and make a huge difference!

Helliopan also do a very good Circ Pol. with a very thin frame no vignetting on Sigma 10-20mm
