So recently upgrading to a 17-40L (77mm) its time i upgrade from my Cokin p series set.

I'm currently looking at Hitech's rage and seem to be a fair price..

The problem i'm having is that i would like the adaptor ring to fit a 105mm Polarising Filter. Can any one suggest where i can find them for a fair price? or are they all £100+?

Also i will be taking photos of some cars soon, I will be using a Polarizer will it be affected at all if its on the hitech adaptor with no filters in use compared to just being on the lens?

I have a couple of 77mm dia lenses and do exactly what Mark suggests. I use a 77mm B£W polariser that cost me about £90.

You can pick up a 105mm polariser holder for £38 off a well known online auction site. This will fit onto the Cokin ZPro, HiTec and Lee modular holders. The big drawback is the price of the CPL filters. I have yet to see a good one that costs under £200.

Again, as Mark stated, don't buy a crap CPL filter for your "pro" glass. It's totally pointless.

Also, if you're going to use a 105mm polariser I recommend a 77mm to 105mm stepping ring, that way you can use the polariser on its own if you want, eg without grads.

I'm only saying 105mm as seen THIS.

But starting to feel to save money perhaps buying a 77mm instead and then attaching the filter system after.

Would you say to all this?

If I were in your shoes then I would not spend anymore on the P series filter set. The main reason is that you are very likely to get vignetting on your new lens when at its widest.

I don't know how you stand financially and obviously this will be the deciding factor, along with how seriously you do, and will take your photography.

In the short term you could buy a decent 77mm CPL filter but you won't be able to use your ND grads. The plus side is it will be easy to sell the CPL, as long as you buy a good one. You need to look at the coated filters made by the likes of B£W or Heliopan. Expect to pay about £100 if you buy new.

The next choice is what ND grad filter kit you intend to buy. Of you have the money then Lee is the way to go. They are expensive but seem to be the choice of many.

If, like me, you can't justify the cost of the Lee system then go for either the Cokin ZPro or HiTec. I use the Cokin and love it, at the end of the day it's down to personal choice.

The final choice is wether or not to invest in a 105 mm holder and CPL. Expect to pay around £250-300 for this add on.

No one can tell you what to do, the choice is straight forward enough.

Finally, when/if you do buy a modular kit, make sure you buy a wide angle. No risk of unwanted vignetting if you do :).

Thanks for your help Andy,
At the moment my car has a issue with its breaks -.-
So think its best to hold back and just buy a 77mm CPL for now.

No problems Sam.

Remember that ND grad filters are not a must have whereas, imho, a decent CPL filter is.
