I eventually got round to buying a UV filter for my Nikon 80-200 f2.8, after trying to fit it and thinking I was being cak-handed for a few minutes I had a close look at the filter thread. I noticed that outer edge of the end of the lens has a flat section about 1cm length. Obviously this has distorted the thread and is preventing the filter to be fitted. The damage is not noticable by eye but you can feel it if you run your finger around the edge. So it is very slight. I have never knocked the lens so it must have been done by the previous owner. I realy love this lens and have used it for years getting some great results so I dont think the damage is such that it is effecting image quality.
However my plan was to fit the filter and a screw in hood, does anyone know of somewhere that could repair this sort of damage?
