Filters for M/43 - Screw in or Square ?

Hi all, just like to get peoples take on the sort of filter systems people are buying for the M/43 system ?

i only recently got into this format, having been a Nikon user for many years. I still have my 2 Nikon FX bodies (D800 and D3s), but all my filters are 77mm screw in.

I currently have Olympus OMD-EM1 and Panasonic GX7 bodies, with the following main lenses (my most used) - Olympus 9-18, Olympus 12-40 F2.8 Pro, Olympus 45mm F1,8, Panasonic 45-200 and 20mm F1.7.

The question is, I need a ND stopper, polariser, and ND grads, and am undecided to go all square system filters (as I guess the ND grads would have to be), or get the ND Stopper and Polariser in standard screw type at the largest size I need, then use step up rings for the other lenses ? I know Lee have just launched the new Seven5 system specifically for mirrorless systems, but they are very expensive.

Therefore any advice most gratefully received.

Cokin also do a smaller square filter set.
i think it is the A Series. They are reasonably affordable.
Having used screw in and square I would definitely go for a square system. Much quicker and easier to use.
Just be aware the plastic Cokin filters can scratch if you are mot careful with them!

Cokin say that the A series is for 36- 62mm diameter lenses so P Series may be needed if you want the system to fit 77mm lenses. Cokin say that the P Series is good for up to 82mm diameter.

I went for P Series and I have both the normal and slim holders, three Cokin rings and a load of step up rings that I hardly ever use. These days if I do use a filter it'll be a screw on ND, 49mm. I keep a couple in my camera bag and normally just use them to keep the shutter speed down on sunny days.

Some people report poor quality and colour casts with Cokin but I think I've been lucky and must have always bought from good batches. There are other reasonably priced filters that'll fit the Cokin holders too, I'm sure that Kood do some.

Thanks for the response guys. I did use Cokin P some years ago on my D100 / D200, but found their ND grads gave a slightly magenta cast to the photos. Have they improved since then ?

I've checked, and for the lenses that I'd probably want to use filters on the most (9-18, 12-40 amd 14-140), the thread sizes are 52mm, 62mm & 58mm respectively.

The Lee Seven5 system is more expensive but you don't need to buy a compete set all at once. Given their availability you probably can't

Alternatively Formatt-Hitech now have a smaller set as well.
