Been looking at getting a CPL filter for my Sigma 10-20 as its my main landscape lens however been reading up a little on ND filters and especially the Cokin P system, for about £62 I could get the Cokin P ND Grad Kit which comes with a 77mm ring adaptor, would this be alright on my 10-20, or will I get optical problems with it?

Not really sure where to start :bang:

The Cokin P series CPL (P164) will only work on lenses with a maximum filter size of 72mm. The grads will however be fine as far as the size goes.

Polarizers don't work well with wideangles (will cause different levels of darkening across the frame). Grads are the way to go.

Uneven polarising has never been a problem for me with 10-22mm lens and TBH I've only ever seen a couple of images where it looks even slightly odd.

Polariser and grad are stock in trade for landscape.

Sorry if I sound like I'm covering old ground here, or it's been shown else where, but are you sure about the 72mm limit as Cokin's own site says they do adapter rings for P series up to 118mm

Reason for me asking is that I've been considering a ND kit as well - but with 77mm and 82mm adapter rings, and I don't want to waste my money if some one else has already found out it won't work.

Hi mate, I thought the same that it would fit alright but I think there maybe some concerns over how it affects the images, thats what I'm trying to clarify too.

The P series mounts are 85mm wide...as are all the square/rectangular filters such as the ND's and Grad's. The CPL is mounted in a peripheral frame that is 85mm diameter but the glass polariser portion is only 72mm diameter.

The Formatt site has all you need. For £50 I got the plastic 3 slot holder, 58mm adaptor and the ND Grad set. This was all for the 85mm filters.

I took the view that for a fiver, I'd try the HiTech holder and see how I got on, how much I actually used the filters, and upgrade at a later date if it was worth it.

The HiTechs I've got are the 85mm ones, so they fit the Cokin P system. Not really investigated the Z series, so not sure what size they are.

Need some advice too. At the moment I have a Cokin ND filter and Grad ND. I also have a 3 slot holder. I've just bought a 12-24 lens with a 77mm filter size. Which direction should I go in? Just stick with what i've got but buy a wide angle holder that Cokin do?

I think I will go for the 100mm filters that way I'm covered for any lens that I have or am likely to have, so I guess the decision is Lee Filter Holder or Cokin Z filter holder, I don't mind paying for it as an initial outlay as long as I know I am getting good quality.
