Well finally took pluge and invested in a DSLR :) just need to get used to Manual modes rather than just being complacent and leaving in Auto Mode, but for the time being Auto mode it is. Also plan on using the free training vouchers to progress and use camera to full potential.
Had a quick play in local field and will appreciate any advice, criticism on how to better or where am going wrong (go easy i'm a total novice to all this:lol:)
heres what i think are the best of what i took today

I think that the last shot is the best but maybe it could benefit from a boost to contrast and saturation?

Good luck with your new toy! :) Be warned, cameras and lenses and all the gear are very addictive... :)

cheers for that, have ordered photoshop elements 9 but wont be here till friday so can then start to learn to edit

Well it looks like you and the 60D are a perfect match Michael  Congrats on your purchase  I was thinking of having a small freindly competition for those that are new to photography. The prize was not thousands of pounds  But a handful of Photoshop paperback books, not a full set but they do cover quite an extensive range of editing techniques. Seeing as you have made the effort to go straight out and have produced some really nice images and are keen to take advantage of the coupons I have decided that they are yours if you would like them  If you are interested then pm me your address details and I will post them on to you.

Fair play, that's a nice thing to do!

Welcome :)

Some good shots there. There is loads of advice on how to use your camera to it's full potential, what I would say is concentrate on composition. If a picture isn't technically perfect, a good composition goes a long way to making it more pleasing.

Judging by the depth of field on yours shots (and not checking the EXIF) I assume you've got yourself a 50mm 1.8?

Keep it up and never leave your camera at home.

Dont look at me :suspect: It was a thought I had so as I could give the mags away to a good home, but I was struggling to decide how to make it fair so to speak  Let us say Michael inspired me  Now go and crawl to the Mods if you want a newbie comp ;)

I too just started out and I've just been sucked into buying lenses and I dont even know the basic yet! :bonk:

hehehe, yes i found myself with lots of nikon friendly glass very quickly :-) I would love to say that the spending vast amounts of money on photography slows down, but er... thats not quite the case!

Hello! This is my first time on here and I'm hooked! I have elements 9 and it's well worth the money, sometimes it comes as a double pack with a movie editing suite from Adobe as well which retails for the same price as just elements 9. Also I would recommend Digital Photo magazine as it gives you loads of tutorials from editing to using a dlsr from a beginners point of view. I am teaching a friend to use her nikon 5000 by using the pull out guides!!
