Hi guys, so whilst on a trip to New England on a photo trip I managed to slip and took a tumble with camera in hand.

I managed to save it fairly well and the lens hood which was in the stored position took most of the impact along with the lens cap / filter.

The AIV body came away unscathed which I was very surprised about.

Got the camera and lens back to the hotel and gave it a good clean and removed all fragments of glass from the lens filter and dirt etc.

Lens auto focus, zoom, manual focus, aperture, etc all working fine. No issues with images etc.

But... I am left with a slight dent / bulge on the lens rim / ring. Concerned about leaving incase of dust ingress... also my OCD is going wild, my gear is babied.

After the fall the zoom ring did feel gritty but is now smooth as it always was (not sure if it was just adrenaline and panic) and when zooming in there is sometimes a notch which i cant remember if it was always there as I've not used the lens that much since I purchased just before the summer.

Do i pay for the repair via Wex which is looking like £300-550... depending on how deep the damage is, or is there someone / somewhere else would recommend.

Also is it worth claiming on insurance?

Thoughts / comments / condolences welcome.

TIA, Rob

you could try " http://www.camserve.co.uk" that is my first port of call. I have been there and chatter to the two guys . It is nothing special, just a workshop , no selling on a glossy glass counter but can highly recommend.
tell them the problem and see what they come up with. fill out the fault report in the link
