Finding out IS info from EXIF

I ran into tihs issue just by chance as I was doing some tests to check if there was any differences when shooting with a Canon lens with IS on or off while on a tripod. I know precisely which images I had IS on but as I was going to post it on a thread I went looking for the EXIF details but surprisingly I cannot find any details on IS. Tried all the programs I know including PhotoME which gives quite a detailed info on the image shot but where it says IMAGE STABILATION all my images show "Not set".
At first I thought may be its just because I might not have given time for the IS to kick in while taking the shot but then checking further noticed that definitely that's not the problem. I have shots with IS on while taking the pics but the EXIF just says the same as above.

Now, is there something that I need to activate so that the EXIF should show this or is it something else here. As mentioned PhotoME gives quite a detailed data on the image but this is all I get for IS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Amin

A lot of the later IS lenses will detect when the camera is mounted on a tripod and switch it off.

And I think even if it does auto switch off, I think it's recommended to switch it off.

Which lens were you using ?

My images were taken handheld and IS was definitely on. Tried looking in the EXIF for the Sigma 150-500mm and for the Canon 300mm IS f/4.0 also.

Anyway if the IS was off why is it not saying IS off in the EXIF? That's what I am trying to find out. The EXIF reader cannot read details on the IS from the data as it returns "Not set". Which I think it means data is not available

I've never seen that data on any exif reader.

Thanks for that confirmation. I just wanted to make sure that its how it is, that the IS data is not available.

this application is pretty good at reading the EXIF and it does attempt to read the IS but returns blank (Not Set).

As I have experience with Pentax the equivalent of IS the SR (Shake reduction) data is always visible in the EXIF. But that might be due to different technology as its implemented in the body rather than the lenses. So much so that when releasing the shutter you can see in the viewfinder when the green light comes on signifying that SR has kicked in and locked confirming that you can release the shutter with the full press then

That application doesn't show the IS info, just tried it.

It also shows my shutter count as 190! on all pics

just uninstalled it.

Strange!!
In mine it shows the most detailed EXIF I have ever come across :).
