Firefox problem

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I'm running Wondows XP and the last time I shut down i got the message that Windows would also install it's latest update as usual. When I got home I discovered the blue screen of death saying windows had encountered an error. I rebooted and couldn't get past the Windows XP logo. I managed to get in using the last stable state option and ran a virus check using AVAST which was all clear. The sytem was still clunky but usable unitl it threw me out with the following message
IRQL_NOT_LETS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0x0000000A (0XF7B5E2E8, 0X0000006, 0X00000001, 0X806D98FE) Beginning dump of physical memory

I managed to get in again and after CHKDSK ran things seemed to get better. However Firefox now hangs and I have to use the power restart button to get rid of it - task manager won't close in restore session mode or alternatively it justs decided to reboot and I go back into the loop.

Any ideas please on what I can do

TIA
Forgot to say my other applications Word, Excel etc are fine

did you let windows update install a new hardware driver by any chance? IRQL errors are usually driver or memory related.

if it crashed while firefox was open it could have caused it to have a hissy (technical term), if youre getting no luck with it maybe uninstall FF and download the latest copy and try that.

Not certain what the update was - system is set to autonmatically update windows. I've tried reinstalling FF and it froze all of my system. On reboot I got the message The sytem has recovered from a serious error

If you go into windows update there is a view update history, it should show what was installed on that date

Thanks for that but can you give me the path to find this please i.e. where do find windows update on my PC

Very strange I've got nothing that recent but a couple of updates with no date - does this suggest they weren't installed correctly
