Firewire Daisy Chaining

Hey Everyone,

Well just looking for some advice really.

I'm looking to get a couple of Lexar Firewire Professional CF Card Readers, which support Firewire Daisy Chaining.

That's the easy part, both my laptop and computer dont have Firewire, so can I buy a Firewire to USB adaptor and use that at the end of the daisy chain that attaches to my computer?

I know this will slow the transfer down from Firewire speeds, but the ability to connect more than one card at once would be a massive time saver for me.

Thanks
Jamie

Don't see why it wouldn't, however have you considered getting a PCI firewire card for your PC? They don't cost much if memory serves, but should allow you to fully utilise the firewire speeds.

Unfortunately I can't go for that option as both my PC or Netbook dont have a PCI card available to connect through :( I guess its the downsides of building my own computer I saved money on things I didn't need at the time but not future proof

Just out of curiosity how come your using firewire CF readers if youve only got USB ports available?
If its the daisy chaining ability would you not get just the same benefit from using USB CF readers and a USB hub?

That's a good point that, they'll be the same speed, or faster if you don't use a hub, and just plug then into separate ports on your PC. Plus USB hubs are probably cheaper.

Another thing about firewire, some motherboards have separate firewire headers (like the USB ones for front USB ports) Do you know the make & model number of your motherboard, and I'll have a look for you to see if you can use these. If it turns out you can, you could have firewire ports on your PC, without the need of a spare PCI slot.
