first attempt smoke art

okay so this was my first attempt any advice on how to make it better?


i havnt got any editing software installed yet so did my best with what i could

I think you've made a good job of them. I prefer 1 and 3 but as abstracts that's very subjective

Sorry but they all look oof to me. May be my eyesight though.

I too think that they look a bit OOF I'm also not sure about having the smoke and the BG in the same colour range

mm right well im gunna give it anouther go later what would you recomend?

In the first one the drapes and creases of the background are very obvious in the shot, possibly some light spilling back onto it? I agree that there's a softness to some of the images, but as you're using c.50mm and f/11 I wonder if this is because you're too close (i.e. on or less than the minimum focussing distance for the lens - check the lens specificiations).

My immediate suggestions..

• Check your subject distance against the minimum focus distance in the lens specifications
• Control the light spill onto the background - either move the background further away or flag the light source to prevent spill

It's a good start, and this section of the forum is as much about the journey as it is about the finished result.

Nice shots, I like No2 the best. They may be slightly OOF but they are still striking images.
