This is my first DSLR and have had it just over a week. Nothing worth posting photo wise but I thought I would offer my early opinions.

1) My first choice was a Canon 50D because it felt very comfortable in the hand and it seemed easier to use.
2) The Nikon is very easy to us, not as impossing as I thought it maybe.
3) Love all the buttons for quick access.
4) Not as comfortable as the 50D in my hands but will get used to it.
5) Very happy I bought a body with LCD top plate, it really does make life easier.
6) The viewfinder is stunning.
7) The build quality is amazing.
8) The weight is fine.
9) P program is great if you just need to take a photo quick.
10) The manual is better than expected. Dont think I will need a third party book when they become available.
11) Looks better than the Canon in the flesh, not that that is important.
12) Can't see why I would use LiveView, but time will tell.
13) Video? as above.
14) The Nikkor 50mm 1.4 is a delight and great for understanding aperture.
15) The Sigma 18-250 does what it says on the Tin and is ideal for a learner like me. Makes me understand how Apertureand Shutter speed interact with each other for £200 pounds less than Nikon product.
16) Spent £500 pounds more than I really wanted, but it was worth it.
17) I now have a fourth, to add to my list of the greatist man made objects, the Spitfire, Concorde, the iphone and now the D300s.
18) Very happy just enjoying my new toy.

D300s User Guide LINK it is free, and simple to follow, however the author can be a bit fickle, so take some of his comments with a pinch of salt.

It is easier to follow than the Nikon manual

Many thanks for the link, much appreciated.

No problem, be wary of some of his rants, but for example if you want to know how to set up an off camera Nikon flash using the pop up as a commander you will not find a simpler and easier to follow guide than his.
