Hey guys...

First post on here so i am a rookie :)

Recently started getting into photography and currently use a bridge camera ( Fuji s1730)

Will be looking to upgrade fairly soon so if i give you my brief could you suggest some Bodies/ lens Bundles for me to look at :)

Will be looking to shoot a lot of Motorsport Photography so pref a fast Autofocus, good low light / ISO capabilities...a good general lens for medium distance from track shooting.

Pref not too complex to use as im only learning still, a Nikon camera would be my 1st choice also...

please suggest away, post links, ask questions all you want :) :)

errmm not really set on one atm but say £500 as a guess??

Well if i could get a bundle with a general use lens to start with for that id be pleased :)
then can be upgraded as and when :)
 
dont mind....if i can get a higher spec by going used then thats fine :)
 
I just bought a used (but mint condition) Sony A500, 18-55mm lens, Tripod and camera bag (plus boxes, cables, manuals, software etc) for £485.
I'm informed that was a fair price for the lot, so you should be able to pick up something similar for around the same price. It's a great camera (in my limited experience), and certainly good enough for a rookie.
 
The best advice I've seen given on here is to get to a camera shop and handle the different cameras to ensure that you're comfortable holding them, only consider the ones that feel good in your hand.

Another important aspect to consider is that you're buying into a system, not just a single camera and lens - especially if you get bitten by the bug! Consider what other lens options may or may not be available to you in the future. One of the reasons I went with Nikon was that there are just so many quality lens options available for upgrade in the future, the same would also be true of Canon.

My current feeling is maybe a Nikon D51000?

If i could get that with a general use lens for my budget id be happy :)
 
Have a good look at second hand equipment as long as it has a guarantee if it works for the first 3 months it should be fine.

You will get a lot more for your money

Not sure where abouts you are, but check to see if you have a branch of London Camera Exchange near you (they have quite a few spread around), they have a decent stock of used gear usually.
 
Im in Birmingham pretty much :) had a look in jessops today and the d31000 felt fine so a d51000 is what im aiming for :) assuming the body isnt much different?

And will have a look at the London Camera Exchange mate

I've just bought a d3100 & it's great

Loads of functions & easy system to use.

This is my first slr & on the advice here I went to the shops & handled them all
The d3100 was the most comfortable.
 
What would i lose by looking for a D3000 for around 300 quid? leaving me more money for lenses??

If you can, try for a camera with a motor in... Think these started with d70, d70s, d80 or d90 (that last one should be in jessops if you want to handle it)

d90 has video (incase you want it) and if you keep an eye on ebay you can get a feel for selling prices used.

Do you have any particular type of photos you like to take? If not, I think a colleague got the 17-50 tamron - says its crisp. Personally I prefer the primes, so you could check the nikon 35mm f1.8 (around 170 in jessops).
If you are getting new and can pay it off, ask jessops whether they still do interest free credit. All you need to do is pay it off before the time is up and a 25ukp admin fee.

Otherwise you will probably want to go used. so a trip to reading (as there are loads of used camera stores there) or search online (London Camera Exchange?). Not many local to bham tho. :/

Another idea is to wait a bit and join one of the west mids photo meets. Mainly canon users but you'd get an idea of some of the kit. If you do get a camera you'd be welcome to join in (last one was warwick classic car show).

Iv been looking at Cannons now although i havent handled one....mainly as the prices seem lower?

i would mostly be shooting motorsport photos, and wildlife / scenery photos..

which Cannon model is similar in spec to a nikon d5100??
